Restaurant Sarfalik

Sarfalik, located at the Hotel Hans Egede, offers an innovative restaurant experience which combines the best of the Greenlandic and the global kitchen.

Sarfalik is the Greenlandic word for gathering place, and Greenland has a vast number of those. In Greenland, the tide range is about 4-5 metres, and the entire coastline is bristling with numerous fiords and skerries which altogether provide the perfect setting for creation of gathering places.

When reading a map of any part of the country, you will find a vast number of place names which include the word Sarfalik in one way or the other. Frequently, these are found in close proximity to old settlements, villages or other signs of human activitiy.

In other words, a gathering place is one huge larder where the size and type of catch depend on the season. Therefore, we picked the name Sarfalik: A restaurant that reflects the catch and produce of the season.
